Barb Sheffel (Knowles)

Barbara Ann Howard (Sheffel) Knowles

January 19, 1944 - June 14, 2023

Barbara Ann Howard Knowles, 79, of Charlotte Hall, Maryland, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at UMMC in Baltimore, Maryland.

She was born Jan. 19, 1944, in Tiffin, to Hazel and Richard "Dick" Sheffel. Barb was a 1962 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School. She also graduated with her BSN from Riverside School of Nursing in Toledo in 1965.

She had the pleasure of working as a registered nurse for 43 years in the nursing field and retired from Charlotte Hall Veterans Home in 2008. Barb married Stafford Howard in Tiffin in 1970 and moved to Maryland where she enjoyed 16 years of marriage. In 2009, she married Dave Knowles where she found her love of boating and going to Sharks Tooth Island on the Potomac River.

To know Barb was to love Barb. She was an amazing sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, great-aunt, friend, and nurse. She always welcomed everyone with open arms. She was a very happy and caring person who loved her family very much.

Barb's survivors include her sister, Jan (Dick) Houk of Tiffin; son-in-law, Danny Cusic; son, Travis (Stacy) Howard; six grandchildren, Riki and Alyssa Cusic, and Alexa, Ashley, Ryleigh, and Justin Howard, all of Maryland; great-grandchild, Rosemary Michelle Kennedy Cusic of Maryland; two nieces, Yvette (Mike) Palamo and Heather (Kenny) Butler, both of Ohio; great-nephew, Austin Butler of Ohio; two great-nieces, Isabella and Gabriella Palamo, both of Ohio; extended family including Chris (Kristina) and Rachelle (Jeff); and numerous other grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; and daughter, Shelly Cusic.

A celebration of Barb's life will be announced at a later date.

I had the pleasure of talking with Barb a month or two before our last reunion. She would have liked to attend but major health problems prevented it. Rest in peace Barb.

Lots of great memories with Barb.  More often than not, she was our "driver" in high school. She had her own car!  She will be missed by many.
